TEST PACKAGES SUGGESTED

If a field has never been sampled before, we recommend the complete test S3C.

For grain crops which will require nitrogen, we recommend tests S1AN or S2N, which include nitrate nitrogen.

In low rainfall areas, we also recommend a subsoil nitrate test.

For legume crops, we recommend a test including Boron analysis (tests S3, S3C, or S6).

In areas of high soil pH (over 7.1), we recommend test S1B (with Bicarbonate Phosphorus) and/or S2.

For soil where manure has been applied frequently or heavily, we recommend test S2N.

For determining optimum herbicide application rate, we recommend adding a Texture Analysis to any of the above.

Collection of soil to submit

Before collecting each subsample, scrape away surface residue then sample the top 6 inches or the depth of tillage.

Using soil spade or trowel, remove a V-shaped wedge, approximately 6 inches deep.

Preferably, collect in a clean, dry plastic container as soil may pick up zinc for example, if the container is galvanized

From one side of V-shaped hole remove a slice (1/2 inch thick) from top to the 6 inch depth.

Place complete slice in a clean bucket.

Take 6-12 samples depending on the size of the area.

Mix cores or slices thoroughly in a clean plastic container, and send about a pint (2 cups) of the composite sample to the laboratory.

Seal bag well.

Place filled, sealed sample bag and information sheet in a box. and mail to:
